December 22nd
It has been 1 year since my nina passed away and there is not a day that i don't think of her. I miss her so much and only she knows how much i do. It's tough to go through the loss of someone so close to me, someone that i looked up to...or technically kinda down to cuz she was a little shorter than me lol but i loved her anyways :) she knows i joke around. It's been a year and i can't believe all that i have done without her here...sometimes i wonder if she's proud of the things i have done. I know that God needed her, I know she's happy, she's finally with her mom :') , I know she's at peace, &I know I am at peace with her passing but that doesn't change the emptiness but I know she is always with me.I honestly believe she is my guardian angel and she will always be with me through thick and thin through the good and the bad through it all. I believe things happen for a reason. I will always cherish the memories and moments i shared with her no matter what...cross my heart. :)
i love you nina.
love,
your becca. <3

Disney College Program!

*sidenote* Since its been a while since I blogged...we'll start with what you've all missed from the past year...

I had known about the Disney College Program since i was a junior in high school and I had always dreamt about participating in the program and getting my foot in the door with the company and now opportunity was knocking at my door...

The Disney College Program is about a 6 month program that allows you to take classes that are held on the Disneyland Resort at their auditorium/classrooms that could be used as college credit. Some of these classes that you may choose to take are background information about Disney and how the company got started (blended learning series)...another is teaching you how to present yourself at a business, doing job resumes, techniques on how to interview etc (marketing you)...another is bringing different leaders from within the company and having them tell you their story on how they got to where they are and their job and role at the resort/company(leadership speaker series)...as you can see there are very different classes that are offered and you don't have to take them all, you choose what one appeals to you or the classes that you would like to take for college credit. Along with taking these classes you do get a job at the resort either in Disneyland/California Adventure/Dowtown Disney(World of Disney) and you may choose to stay at their housing...just like college.hence *college program*.
So I applied in January of 2010 and was accepted in March. For the fall session that I was accepted into there were about 500 students that got in and apparently well over 5,000 students applied from all over the US. I had to go through about 3 interviews to get accepted and though the drive would not be far I was interviewed over the phone where the majority of the students had to go to Anaheim to take theirs...I was so happy to be accepted! & I knew that I was finally going to be able to work at Disneyland--The Happiest Place on Earth! Finally!

(shown above: my sister Jessica, my Nina :) &me)
*I am telling you some people may dream to become singers and actresses...my dream was to work at Disneyland...and though in the back of my mind I never really thought I would, I just thought it was just a dream I had...and now that dream was becoming a reality.*

So I then decided that I would stop going to school and just focus on the college program and continue school after it was all done. So I did...Anyways....my first class that I took was called Blended Learning Series and was basically just a fun class that taught us about how the company started (which I already knew...cuz I am kinda obsessed with Disney lol) and we did some group games and teambuilding skills. One of the games we did was we had to get into groups of about 5 (there was about 40 students) and we were given a sheet with about 30 characters on it and the mission was to correctly name each one and be the first team to do so! *sidenote---there was this girl in my class that thought she knew everything about Disney, and let me tell you yes she knew a lot some things that I didnt know...but she was the annoying-thought she knew it all-talkative-type...and it just bugged me...and she was just saying that this game was gonna be easy and her team was gonna win...and so I couldn't let that happen...I had to show her that she ain't the only one that knew stuff---* Long story short...my team won! and way ahead of hers too! booyaaah!! lol She was mad cuz she didn't win and I gotta say seeing her reaction when my team thanked me for knowing the characters was so worth it! haha it was fun. Another fun activity we did was a scavenger hunt in the park (Disneyland) in groups. And let me tell you that stuff was hard! we had to count the orbiting planets around the Astro Orbitors ride...things like that.but it was lots of fun running around and guests looking at us like we're crazy! :) My team didn't win, but nobody won so it was cool.lol...Overall that class was just fun.we voluntEARed.played games.&did scavenger hunts!

The second class was Marketing You. I learned how to do my resume correctly and how to market myself when it comes to interviews and being in the workplace. This class taught me a lot about myself, time management, interview strategies and how to work with different personalities when it comes to teamwork.

The third class I took was Speaker Series. This class taught me a lot about the different roles there are around the resort and the company.Basically any major can fit working for Disney. I knew I picked the right company to work for lol. We heard from an Imagineer, horitculture cast members, vice president of the resort, entertainment (Mickey Mouse was there! It was the best! He waved at me! *sigh*), finance cast members, managers, downtown disney manager...etc. All their roles sounded so cool! But the one that stuck out to me was Imagineer...now there are different parts of Imagineering...the one that I liked was visuals, so basically they decorate the parks-from bathroom signs to the giant christmas tree that is put up! Its the creativity and the attention to detail that made me fall more in love with Disney and to be a part of that would be great! :)

The other job I want is CEO of the Walt Disney Company...but gotta go one step at a time here...

Oh! And since starting the College Program the role I got was working in the stores in Disneyland...New Orleans/Critter Country being my home lands :)

Anywho...then before I knew it time had come to graduate from the Disney College Program!

(Me and Mickey Mouse...i may have looked a lil scared but i promise i wasn't.i love him!!)
(My family--I couldn't do any of this without them. They keep me going...going crazy too but i love them every one of them with all my heart and I really dont know where I would be without them.) (My Mom&Dad--Where do I begin with these two people...they keep me grounded and I never forget where I came from and who raised me. I love them without a doubt. They support me in everything I do...even when I thought it was crazy! My dreams they believe in as much as I do even if they pretend to I appreciate it. They mean the world to me. I love you guys from the moon and back!)(Danny--this guy supports me too! Even when I said I didn't wanna be a surgeon anymore and just Disney...he said Ok...He continues to stand beside me through whatever I choose to do with my life and believes in me. He knows how much this means to me and constantly tells me he's happy that I love what I do. I love you...til infinity &beyond.

--During the college program I was able to:
--become a VoluntEAR!
--ride Space Mountain with the lights on! (its scary how close those rails are!!)
--met Bob Iger (CEO of Disney Company...oh he's so charming ;)
--met Marty Sklar (Vice Chairman &Principal Creative Executive of Imagineering)
--&other stuff. lol
-can't put THE END...cuz its only the beginning...
TO BE CONTINUED...
